Vancouver Craft Beer Week

Mayor Gregor Robertson will be tapping the first cask tonight which will signal the start of Vancouver Craft Beer Week (VCBW). Running from May 6th-14th VCBW is back in 2011 bigger and better and with more events and most importantly more incredible breweries!

Although there are over 60 events to choose from you better check out their events page and book today as space for VCBW events fill up quickly.

We sent some writers to last years event at in Yaletown and the whole event was top notch. An entire roasted suckling pig and Brewmaster Chuck Silva’s West Coast India Pale Ale was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Read the blog post here.

Participating eateries include Alibi Room, Abigail’s Party, Red Card, The New Oxford, BierCraft Bistro, Hapa Umi, Au Petit Chavignol, Irish Heather Gastropub,, Reef on the Drive, Memphis Blues BBQ, CinCin Ristorante + Bar, The Refinery, Nu Restaurant, Chambar, Yaletown Brewing Co, Two Chefs and a Table, and more.

In celebration of Vancouver Craft Beer Week’s return, 28 of British Columbia’s finest breweries have banded together to create a collaboration beer, with all proceeds being donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society Tsunami Relief Fund. Thanks to Canada Malting for donating the raw materials for the creation of this beer, and to R&B Brewing where the collaboration beer was brewed on April 1st, 2011.

This year’s collaboration beer style is Cascadian Dark Ale (CDA), a style that originated in the Pacific Northwest. We trust you’ll enjoy the robust dark malt body and hoppy backbone of this finely crafted ale.
